The
Hay House of Lords
The British
House of Lords has long been noted for the independence and
free-thinking of the many Hereditary Peers-abolished at a stroke by
the Tony Blair government in favour of the Life Peers, businessman
and bureaucrats appointed by the Government itself so as to be less
of a thorn in its flesh.
Investiture
2000
In support
of the principle of independent and intelligent thinking, Richard
Booth held an Investiture of the Hay House of Lords in the State Room
at Hay Castle on 1st April 2000. Twentyone new Hereditary Peers of
the Kingdom of Hay were created, and the event was such a success
that it |
|
has been
decided to repeat it every year from now on. The King of Hay is
determined to bestow the honour of a Peerage to as many people of as
wide a range of political and non-political opinions as possible, to
celebrate diversity, and individuality. |
